OutKind Counseling in a Time of Quarantine and Questions

Hello friends!

First, if you or someone you know are in danger or are experiencing an emergency, medical or mental, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department.

This is such an odd time and we are each having to face so many changes so in such short order.  OutKind Counseling remains, at this time, open and is providing telehealth sessions only.  This is for the health and safety of us all.  I hope to continue to provide services throughout the quarantine period.  There are a couple of notes I specifically want to share with you.

  1. Your health is of the utmost importance. It is imperative we take care of ourselves in order to help take care of each other.  To this end, all sessions will be conducted via Telehealth until further notice.  I am suspending all late-cancellation fees for appointments from Monday, March 16th.  You can cancel your appointment by call or text to (757) 952-6767 or you can e-mail at spmcnulty@outkindcounseling.com.
  2. Remember that OutKind Counseling services are not available 24 hours a day/365 days a year and does not provide crisis services through its practice.  If you or someone you know is in danger please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department.
  3. Appointments are expected to move forward as scheduled unless you are otherwise notified. 
  4. Reminders for appointments will be sent, typically the Sunday prior to the appointment.  The EHR does not seem to be sending reminder notices 24 hours in advance with the appointments switched to telehealth.
  5. If you are connected to W&M and are not going to be able to make already scheduled future appointments through the Spring Semester of 2020, please let me know.  If you know you are not going to be continuing services with this office in the Fall of 2020 (expecting that by that time the situation will have returned to some greater sense of normal), please let me know this as well so that I may close your chart.  If you are in need of a referral to a counselor near you, feel free to message me or visit psychologytoday.com to find someone in your area.  If you know that you would be interested in continuing with this office in the Fall of 2020, please let me know and I will leave your chart open so that you can schedule yourself when you are returning to campus.
  6. Only for the time of the quarantine, I am using Telehealth Services through Simple Practice's platform.  This is a way to provide sessions face-to-face in a virtual way.  It is important to note a couple of things: A. You are responsible for the appointment fees and MUST verify with your health insurance that they will cover this service.  Some insurances do not cover telehealth and some have specific requirements for the platforms they use.  The online platform OutKind Counseling uses is with Simple Practice and is HIPAA compliant.  An agreement to use online services for your sessions is also an agreement that you will cover the cost of those services should your insurance refuse to pay. B.  There is a release you would need to sign in order to use this service.  C. If there are safety concerns as part of your therapy, online services may not be appropriate for you and would require us to have a conversation about how we can work to ensure your safety. D. If you are interested in online services, please contact me by e-mail at spmcnulty@outkindcounseling.com. E. This service will be continued past the quarantine on a case-by-case basis, though it is expected that most appointments will convert back to being in-office appointments post-quarantine.  F.  This service is only available to individuals who reside within the state of Virginia.
  7. Please be sure that your contact information is up-to-date through the online client portal.  You can access the portal at: https://outkindcounseling.clientsecure.me
  8. The client portal has changed how it functions and you no longer need a password.  Once you go to the portal it was ask if you are a new or existing client.  If already existing, it will ask you for your e-mail address and send a link to that address for you to access the portal.
